These itineraries allow you to meet passionate professionals. For example, during a visit to a lavender grower, you will discover the steps involved in making essential oils: from cultivation to harvesting and distillation.

Flowering and harvesting of lavender.
There are different species of lavender, and they flower at different times. Let's start with fine lavender, also known as true lavender. It grows naturally at altitudes of 700 meters and higher. Smell its delicate fragrance! Its essential oil is used to make perfumes and products for relaxation and well-being. It flowers from early July and is harvested from late July to early August. To recognize it, fine lavender has a single stem.
Let's continue with lavandin.
It grows at altitudes of over 300 meters and is harvested from late June to mid-July. Lavandin is a natural hybrid of fine lavender and spike lavender, whose powerful, lively scent makes it ideal for use in soaps and cleaning products. To recognize it, it has a main stem and two branches on either side. Note also that lavandin yields are much higher - 60 to 150 kg per hectare. For lavender, it's 15 to 20 kg per hectare.

The story of a distillery in Provence.
Distilleries and Domaines of Provence have been making aperitifs and liqueurs in Forcalquier since 1898.
Let's start with a bit of history! In medieval times, in Haute-Provence, drug peddlers gathered medicinal plants from the Montagne de Lure to make their concoctions. The Montagne de Lure abounds in incredible biodiversity, with more than 1,600 species of flowers! So there's plenty to do.
What do you think the word « farigoule » ? This plant is used to make Farigoule thyme liqueur, which means thyme in Provençal.
The know-how and traditions of a Provencal distillery.
Like the production of our products at L’Occitane en Provence, the distillery formulates its recipes in the laboratory. It also favours local sourcing and short circuits when it comes to natural ingredients, particularly plants. Let's take a look at some of the secrets behind the making of Pastis Henri Bardouin... First of all, we select the greenest and not too dry mugwort leaves. This plant gives the drink its distinctive amber colour. Then we choose the most aromatic spices, such as cardamom, to obtain that distinctive flavour. Master macerators, distillers and oenologists master this know-how to offer you top-quality products. Just like real artists, some compose the notes and others work with the plants. Thanks to the new recipe for Pastis Henri Bardouin « PRESTIGE », the Distillery is offering a completely new taste experience, imagined and designed like a perfume. In the olfactory pyramid of this Pastis, we discover intense, aniseed and spicy top notes. Centifolia rose and aniseed follow in the middle notes. And finally, vetiver and saffron in the base notes. With these exceptional recipes, Distilleries and Domaines of Provence pay homage to Nature.

A family-run wine estate in the Luberon.
Thomas MONTAGNE has been the winemaker at Clapier's castle in the Luberon since 1995. He has followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. The castle has been a family estate since 1880! He takes particular care with his vines, which cover around 35 hectares. During your visit, discover the vines as you stroll around the estate in the heart of nature. But why is the estate an ambassador for pinot noir? In the 1980s, Thomas's father decided to plant 2 hectares of pinot noir. This is a Burgundian grape variety renowned for its finesse and elegance. Although pinot noir is not native to Burgundy, the micro-climate on the estate gives the wine freshness, relative acidity and good balance.
Thomas MONTAGNE works in harmony with nature. This is also what we do with our producers at L'Occitane en Provence. It's essential to be partners with nature and to preserve it! The estate has obtained High Environmental Value certification. The aim is to preserve the soil as much as possible. It therefore uses the principle of agroforestry, i.e. adding other plant species to preserve biodiversity and ensure plant cover of the soil. When the vines are not growing, the eco-pasture technique is used. Sheep fertilise the soil and keep the vines free of weeds.
Discover the history of a vineyard.
To begin with, the estate takes its name from the locality known as « Clapier » on which its land extends. It also comes from the Provençal word ‘Clapas’, meaning ‘heap of stones’, which refers to the particularly stony soil of Provence.
If you come to the castle, you will be enchanted by its authentic character. From the 16th to the end of the 18th century, the estate was the former property of the Provençal nobility, the Marquis of Mirabeau. Then, in 1880, the estate became a vineyard thanks to the installation of a cellar with twelve tuns! This cellar was in operation for over a century, from 1880 to 1995! During your visit, you will be able to step back in time to admire these superb tuns. The estate is dominated by a handsome building with a large, pleasant park where you can relax.
Festive and cultural events at the castle.
Clapier's castle offers a range of events and wine tastings throughout the year. If you're looking for weekend activities in the Luberon, think of the castle! As a family, take part in the treasure hunt ‘In the footsteps of Thomas Montagne’. It's a great way to discover the estate, its history, traditions and know-how.
For wine lovers, the estate organises cellar tours and tastings in a dedicated area. And last but not least, you can take part in events such as musical afterworks, picnic concerts in the grounds, harvest festivals, tasting workshops and much more!
